Annapurna Trekking

Annapurna Trekking

Annapurna TrekkingAnnapurna trekking has been wildly recognized as a naturalist's paradise. The upper sub-alpine steppe environment harbors some of the rare snow leopards and blue sheep. Other areas of the region protect bird species such as the multi-coloured Impeyan, kokla, blood pheasant amongst a multitude of other birds, butterflies and insects. Many plants native to Nepal are found in this forest. The conservation area has 100 varieties of orchids and some of the richest temperate rhododendron forest in the world.

For thousands of years people of diverse ethnic backgrounds have scratched a livelihood out of its steep hillsides. The advent of tourism and the phenomenal rise in human population has triggered a process of environmental deterioration. In 1968 Nepal's King Mahendra Trust for Nature Conservation launched the Annapurna Conservation Area Project.

With international help, the project aims to integrate environmental conservation with development that can sustain the area's reserve base. The project aspires to improve local living standards, protect the environment and develop a more "sensitive" form of tourism. One of its most important function has been to develop and teach courses on environmental education in local schools.

Namaste,
Homepage Himalaya Trekking Wandelreizen
In November 1994 I travelled around the Annapurna Circuit in Nepal with a group, organised by the Dutch tour operator Himalaya Trekking Wandelreizen.

On this website you will find more than 180 photos taken before, during and after the trek, including some photos taken on a holiday in Nepal the year after. This website contains no big story, only photos...

Click on the buttons on the right to select the photos or start with the first photo and proceed all the way to the end of the photo gallery.

Those who are planning a trek around Annapurna can see what kind of scenery they may expect. For those who have already been there it will be nice to see some of the spectacular views again.

Annpaurn Trekking Himalaya Nepal
Annapurna area is located east of a great gorge cut through the Himalaya by the Kali Gandaki river. The mountain has glaciers on its western and northwestern slopes which drain into this gorge. In Annapurna Trekking, Visit Ghandrung, a large and typical Gurung village. This is the home of many of the Gurkha soldiers, famous for their brave exploits in World War and more recently, the Falk and War. There are natural hot springs in this area, a welcome place to relax for the weary trekkers. Another favorite destination is Muktinath, a holy pilgrimage for both Hindus and Buddhists. The mountain scenery will bring you lifetime memories.
It is observed that about 64% of the trekkers who come every years Nepal for trekking visit Annapurna regions of Nepal. So it is the most trekked area of Nepal.  Annapurna area/region offers a great variety of beautiful landscapes, nature & culture of the central Himalayan area of Nepal with the best & splendid Himalayan panorama of Mt. Annapurna, Mt. Fishtail, Mt. Manaslu, Mt. Nilgiri, Mt. Hiun Chuli and several other mid western Himalayan ranges of Nepal.

Summary walk through villages, then climb through forests into the Annapurna Sanctuary, a valley surrounded by high Himalayan peaks. A great opportunity to get into the mountains without altitude problems of the Mt Everest region. The site of the Annapurna south faces Base Camp, is a spectacular short trek. though it has some steep climbs, the trek is not difficult. You can make the trek from Pokhara to Annapurna base Camp and Back in as few as 11or 12 days, but it is best to allow two weeks to fully appreciate the high altitude scenery. Short Description of Annapurna Circuit Trek
The high point of the trek entails crossing of the 5414m high Throng Pass, from the arid valley of the upper Manang, home of Tibeto- Buddhists, down to the Hindu pilgrimage site of Muktinath, and the Kali Gandaki valley, the world's deepest river gorge, before heading down to Pokhara. Besides the mountain views, we encounter on this trek a variety of mountain communities of the Gurung, Manangi and Thakali people.

Annapurna region is best described as the most happening incentive trekking destination of Nepal. The Annapurna Circuit Trek has been proved as a highly praised and spectacular trekking route in the Annapurna region since it opened to foreign trekkers in 1977.
This three weeks trek starts right from Besishahar and goes along the Marshyangdi River, with great view of Manashlu and Himal Chuli to the east. This magnificent trek leads you to the fine village inhabited by a wide diversity of people from different ethnic groups, offering spectacular and majestic view of the white Himalayas. As it continues to the north of the main Himalayan range on to the high and dry Tibetan Plateau, the scenery is equally breathtaking.

The highest point of the trek is Thorungla pass at the top of the valley at 5416m high. Due to the difficulties of crossing the pass, the circuit is usually walked in a counter clockwise direction. Traveling clockwise the longer ascent and shorter descent from west to east is too much for many peoples to manage in one day. To top it all, the crossing of the Thorong La pass (5,416m) is a challenging ascent, surrounded by some of the most magnificent.
